MIL-STD-188/197A (NOTICE 1), DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE INTERFACE STANDARD: ADAPTIVE RECURSIVE INTERPOLATED DIFFERENTIAL PULSE CODE M (ARIDPCM) COMPRESSION ALGORITHM FOR THE NATIONAL IMAGERY TRANSMISSION FORMAT STANDARD (05 JUN 2003) [NO S/S DOCUMENT]., MIL-STD-188-197A, dated 12 October 1994, is inactive for new design and will not be maintained or updated for futuredevelopment. Use of ARIDPCM compression is limited to legacy NITF version 1.1 files. The document will continue tobe available only for reference of historical and archival functions to current users of standards that reference MIL-STD-188-197A. New designs should use ISO/IEC 15444, entitled "JPEG 2000 Part 1: Image coding system: Core codingsystem."
