【摘要】:Thisdocumentisintendedfordeterminationofthecompression,swellingandconsolidationpropertiesofsoils.Thecylindricaltestspecimenisconfinedlaterally,issubjectedtodiscreteincrementsofverticalaxialloadingorunloadingandisallowedtodrainaxiallyfromthetopandbottomsurfaces.Themainparametersderivedfromtheoedometertestrelatetothecompressibilityandrateofprimaryconsolidationofthesoil.Estimatesofpreconsolidationpressure,rateofsecondarycompression,andswellingcharacteristicsaresometimesalsoobtainable.Themainparameterswhichcanbederivedfromtheoedometertestcarriedoutonundisturbedsamplesare:1)compressibilityparameters;2)coefficientofconsolidation;3)apparentpreconsolidationpressureoryieldstress;4)coefficientofsecondarycompression;5)swellingparameters.Thefundamentalsoftheincrementalloadingoedometertestinclude;—stresspathcorrespondstoone-dimensionalstraining;—drainageisone-dimensionalandaxial.Thestresspathsanddrainageconditionsinfoundationsaregenerallythreedimensionalanddifferencescanoccurinthecalculatedvaluesofboththemagnitudeandtherateofsettlement.Thesmallsizeofthespecimengenerallydoesnotadequatelyrepresentthefabricfeaturespresentinnaturalsoils.Analysisofconsolidationtestsisgenerallybasedontheassumptionthatthesoilissaturated.Incaseofunsaturatedsoils,someofthederivedparametersmayhavenophysicalmeaning.
